If you have transmission troubles, it’s time to call the auto care and auto repair technicians at In and Out Tires.

As one venue after another cancelled events because of the pandemic, you – like others who were staying safer at home – spent lots of time on the computer. In your case, you found yourself on car sites, daydreaming about getting a new car.

It’s been a while since you bought a new car and one of the things you noticed were the transmissions. The last time you went new car shopping, you had a choice of a standard transmission or an automatic transmission. Your choice hinged on whether you wanted to physically shift gears or have the car do it for you. But now there’s a second type of automatic transmission known as a continuously variable transmission, or CVT. With a CVT, the car still does the shifting but, instead of using gears, it uses a set of pulleys connected by a belt.

According to carfax.com, there are reasons to choose a CVT: It gets more power from a small engine so when you push on the accelerator, the response is quicker. It’s lighter weight, so it helps save gas. There’s no abrupt downshifting when you pass. It also shifts more smoothly when climbing hills.

Likewise, CVTs have a downside. Again, according to carfax.com, issues “include overheating, slipping, jerking, shuddering and a sudden loss of acceleration. As with any transmission, there are some cases where a CVT has failed altogether. The CVT belt, in particular, can be subject to excessive wear and stretching.”

What sort of transmission you choose depends on the car itself (you may not have a choice with a particular brand or model) and on what you’re comfortable with. But, no matter what type transmission you end up with, you may some day need a reliable auto mechanic to repair it.

If you don’t have a regular mechanic you can trust, you need to talk to the trusted auto repair technicians at In and Out Tires.
